Pre-Kindergarten (4 Year Olds)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW.  The Ralston Pre-Kindergarten Program provides a positive learning environment for children tuition-free. The program is designed upon the research-based philosophy that children need opportunities to participate in developmentally appropriate activities. The pre-kindergarten classrooms provide many ‘hands on” experiences which encourage the development of language, literacy, social skills, and math. The Teaching Strategies GOLD and Get Set for School curriculum are used to assess individual growth in children and provide lessons that fit the needs of each child.  Four year olds attend pre-kindergarten 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) from 8:00 - 3:30 p.m.

  • Children and families are the heart of our program

  • Each child and family is unique and will be treated with dignity and respect

  • The cooperative efforts of home, school, and community are essential for education

  • Learning is a lifelong process

PARTNERSHIP. Parents are encouraged to participate in their student’s classroom and attend special activities whenever able.  If you are unable to volunteer during the school day, there are still a wide variety of take-home activities that parents can volunteer with.  Please contact your student’s teacher about opportunities or look for future information included in classroom newsletters.  In addition to volunteer opportunities, there are opportunities for families to be active at school through parent/teacher conferences, special classroom activities, field trips, and scheduled parent/child activities hosted at the school.

ASSESSMENT.  Assessment of students’ growth and progress in the classroom is ongoing, authentic, and part of a student’s day in the classroom.  The Ralston Public Schools Pre-kindergarten Program focuses on the Teaching Strategies GOLD framework, that aligns with the Nebraska Department of Education standards in pre-kindergarten education.  The assessments are completed throughout the year and the information gathered is used for programming planning, reporting, and staff development.  Parents will be shared their student’s information at conferences and the end of the year home visit, but are encouraged to contact their student’s teacher at anytime for questions regarding their student’s progress.
