In the Ralston English Learner Program, we strive to support our students with the language acquisition process, as well as academic achievement in the classroom. We offer a variety of resources in order to make this happen. At the elementary level, our ELL teachers work with students in small groups or individually to help meet their language and academic needs. We also provide classroom support to students through inclusion. Our instructional support truly depends on the needs of each child. We focus on the four areas of language when providing instruction to students: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through this process, our students learn the English language more quickly and are able to navigate the classroom setting through collaborative support.
At the secondary level, we offer a variety of classes to meet the needs of our English Learners. We have ELL teachers and paraprofessionals at the middle school and high school levels, and we offer language acquisition classes, as well as reading support, to ensure the academic and language success of our students. Our teachers also work diligently to help our students assimilate into the school community, encouraging involvement through numerous extracurricular avenues. Our English Learner teachers work collaboratively with content area teachers to ensure that students have opportunities for success in every course they take through our team approach to learning.
